What Our Screeners Detect

The Spot Vision Screener checks for the most common childhood vision problems in just a few seconds. It can identify:

  • Nearsightedness (difficulty seeing far away)

  • Farsightedness (difficulty seeing up close)

  • Astigmatism (blurry or distorted vision)

  • Anisometropia (unequal prescription between the eyes)

  • Strabismus (eye misalignment)

  • Anisocoria (unequal pupil size)

  • Amblyopia risk factors (“lazy eye” indicators)

If Your Child Was Flagged for an Eye Exam

If your child’s vision screening results recommend a visit to an eye doctor and cost is a barrier, the South Dakota Lions can help. Families can apply for financial assistance to cover the exam—and glasses if needed.
