Henry Baker Research Grant

Presented by the South Dakota Lions Foundation

The South Dakota Lions Foundation research program is intended to strengthen the physical and/or social scientific basis for providing education and health care to South Dakota citizens living with visual impairments.  The program funds high quality projects that study the impact of social work, nursing, medicine, public health, and/or educational interventions in improving the quality of life for persons living with vision loss.

Henry Baker Research Grant Award:  A Henry Baker research grant of $1,000 will be awarded annually to support a South Dakota resident graduate student or faculty who is currently involved in a research project studying ways to improve the quality of life for the blind or visually impaired.  The research project should be completed within a six (6) to eighteen (18) month time frame.

Project types may include, but are not limited to pilot or feasibility studies, secondary analysis of existing data, or research projects done to earn a Master's or Doctorate Degree.

Eligibility Information:  Candidates for the Henry Baker Research Grant must be South Dakota residents at the time of application.  They need to be enrolled in or employed by an accredited college, university, or medical center.  Research projects must be submitted for approval to the appropriate Health Science Campus Institutional Review Board.  The college or university of enrollment does not necessarily need to be located in South Dakota.  Grant proposals must reflect the SD Lions Foundation mission to assure a legacy of vision and hearing related services for South Dakota citizens.
